Whiskey Bar and Grill Setting up Shop in Starkville

Residents of Starkville have a new venue to look forward to, as Whiskey Ranch Bar and Grill positions to become the town’s next hot spot. The bar and grill, planning to open its doors in time for the 2024 football season, will be situated at the former Moe’s Barbecue spot on Main Street.

The man behind Whiskey Ranch is Finn Rice, a University of Mississippi (UM) graduate and native of Fryeburg, Maine. Despite his ties to UM, Rice has relocated to Starkville and become a fervent fan of the city. Simultaneously, his lifelong experience in the restaurant business seems set to work wonders.

Rice’s journey in the restaurant landscape began at 15 when he worked as a food runner at a country club. This experience solidified his love for the hospitality sector, pushing him to work as a bartender while studying business administration in college. When he identified a prime location yearning for a new restaurant, Rice decided to capitalize on the opportunity.

A New Twist on Southern Delicacies

Under Rice’s ownership, Whiskey Ranch Bar and Grill plans to offer a Nashville vibe complete with live bands and southern style dishes. Patrons can look forward to succulent dishes like blackened catfish, jerk chicken, and Mississippi poutine — French fries drowned in Cajun gravy and cheese.

As the name suggests, whiskey is a significant component of the bar and grill’s offerings. A wide array of whiskey brands, flights and specials aim to satisfy whiskey enthusiasts, complete with unique concoctions like pickle martinis. For a change of scenery, Rice is currently renovating the venue; painting, staining, restroom remodeling, and installing a new bar, among other transformations.

Other Starkville Developments

In addition to Whiskey Ranch Bar and Grill, other businesses are making significant strides in the city. Umble Coffee Co., already a favorite among locals, is launching a second location at the Barnes and Noble on Mississippi State’s campus.

Meanwhile, Columbus residents can now enjoy a new culinary spot, Phat Ma’s. Opened by Shawnna Washington, a Nashville native, Phat Ma’s offers a comprehensive menu ranging from biscuits and gravy to chicken sandwiches and soul food. The establishment pays homage to Washington’s personal journey, illustrating that plus-size women can lead and succeed in any capacity.

Lastly, Ashley McGregory opened B.O.S.S Realty, adding to the city’s growing real estate market. The firm promises to assist residents with buying or selling homes, investment properties, land, and commercial buildings and sites.

With these developments, Starkville continues to embrace diversity in its business landscape, promoting inclusivity, and supporting local entrepreneurs. As we transition to the next week, let’s anticipate more positive changes shaping the city’s economic and social fabric.
