Wet Weather Ahead for Columbus, Mississippi

Greetings, Columbus! It looks like we’re in for a bit of a splash this week as rainy weather rolls through our area. As Wednesday night unfolds, we can expect a few leftover showers from earlier storms, but the rain chances will be taking a break shortly thereafter. Temperatures will dip down into the lower and middle 60s, but with a little bit of partial clearing, it might even feel refreshing.

Thursday Forecast: A Bit of Everything!

As we step into Thursday, get ready for a unique weather experience. The Deep South is gearing up for a split forecast, which means some areas will see dry conditions while others may find themselves neck-deep in rain. Thanks to a front that passed through previously, dry air will start to wrap around us, giving folks in northeastern Mississippi a break with some sunshine peeking through at times.

However, don’t let your guard down just yet! Across the Gulf, Powerful Hurricane Helene is on the move, making its final approach to the Florida Big Bend by Thursday evening. If forecasts hold, Helene could be impacting us too—only in the form of some outer bands of rain that push into our region from Alabama. So, while you might enjoy a sunny afternoon, be prepared for heavier rains later in the evening.

Into Friday: Chances of Rain Pick Up

Moving into Friday, things kick up a notch as Helene starts to interact with an upper-level low pressure system. This interaction will likely shift Helene’s path toward the north and northwest as it begins to weaken. For us in Columbus, this means a steady increase in rain chances, especially along and north of US 82. Expect some wet weather throughout the day, but temperatures will still be comfortable, hovering around the middle 70s.

As we prepare for the night, the lows will remain mild, settling into the low to middle 60s.

The Weekend: A Mixed Bag of Weather

As we transition into the weekend, staying updated on the forecast will be essential. That lingering upper-level low will keep its presence felt, leading to scattered clouds and potentially spotty showers throughout both Saturday and Sunday. It will be a bit of a dance between sunshine and clouds, with temperatures dancing between the upper 70s and lower 90s.

The weather can indeed be unpredictable, but having a good understanding of what’s coming can help us all prepare a little better. Grab your umbrella and keep that rain jacket handy—you never know when those showers might return!
