Weather Alert: Tropical Depression Francine Brings Heavy Rain and Winds to Columbus, Mississippi

Weather Update for Columbus, Mississippi: Tracking Tropical Depression Francine

Good evening, Columbus! As we continue to keep an eye on Tropical Depression Francine, it’s clear that the weather is making quite an impact on our area. This Thursday night, we’re still experiencing some locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds as Francine moves northward, bringing along some significant weather patterns.

What to Expect Tonight

As we settle into the evening, expect to see a few more rain showers throughout the night. Some of these showers could be intense, so heavy rain on rooftops is likely! The winds aren’t taking a break either, as they’ll continue to gust out of the south at around 10 to 20 mph, with some gusts hitting up to 30 mph. Because of this strong wind activity, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM Friday morning. Overnight, we can expect temperatures to drop into the mid to upper 60s, so if heading out, a light jacket alongside an umbrella may be advisable!

Friday Forecast: More Rain on the Way

Friday is shaping up to be another rainy day for Columbus! As we kick off the day in the early morning hours, showers and thunderstorms will be rolling through, pushing northeastward. Raincoats will be essential, especially during the morning commute, as storms are expected to be at their strongest. With highs reaching into the upper 70s and low 80s, the warm temperatures may not be enough to prevent a soggy day!

Throughout Friday, be prepared for scattered showers continuing on and off. If attending Friday night football games, checking the forecast and bringing rain gear is recommended.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

Looking toward the weekend, there’s a silver lining on the horizon! While isolated rain chances are still possible, a complete washout appears unlikely. Saturday and Sunday should see some sunshine breaking through the clouds, with highs moderate in the low 80s. While keeping an eye on the skies is wise, there will still be opportunities to enjoy the outdoors!

Before making any weekend plans, keep a close watch on weather updates as the situation with Francine continues to develop. Staying safe and dry is essential, especially with the unpredictability that can come with tropical weather. Having an emergency kit ready is always advisable—just in case winds pick up even more!

Stay Connected

As tropical storms can often change patterns rapidly, it’s crucial to stay connected with local weather updates. Keeping track of how the weather is affecting the area is important. We’re all navigating through this storm together.

Let’s hope for clearer skies ahead, Columbus! Enjoy the weekend and stay safe out there!
