Candlelight vigil remembrance
COLUMBUS, Miss. – A tragic incident in our community has left many in shock after a 16-year-old boy lost his life following a shooting last weekend. The Columbus Police Department has arrested a 19-year-old man, Jakody Moore, in connection with this heartbreaking case.
The incident occurred in the 200 block of Constance Lane. Authorities arrived at the scene to find two young victims: a 17-year-old, who was quickly rushed to the hospital, and Marquez Carter Jr., who tragically died at the scene. It was a day that started like any other but quickly turned into one that will forever haunt the families and friends of the victims.
Jakody Moore was taken into custody by the criminal investigation division and is currently facing serious charges, including murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His initial court appearance is on the horizon, and he remains held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center as the investigation continues.
The shooting has understandably left a number of residents shaken. Many are expressing their sorrow and anger at what has occurred in their neighborhood. The loss of a young life is always devastating, and emotions are running high as community members come to terms with the senselessness of the violence. Friends and family of Marquez Carter Jr. are mourning the loss of a promising young individual who had his whole life ahead of him.
