According to the authorities, the accident occurred at approximately 8:24 AM. A 2009 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 70-year-old Mary W. Coley of Columbus, was heading southbound on Highway 69. As she traveled down the road, she collided head-on with a 2012 Toyota Camry, which was being driven northbound by 37-year-old Jimmy D. Latham, also from Columbus.

Members of the District 3 Volunteer Fire Department arrived promptly and used the jaws of life in a heroic effort to rescue Latham from the wreckage of his vehicle.
