According to the authorities, the accident occurred at approximately 8:24 AM. A 2009 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 70-year-old Mary W. Coley of Columbus, was heading southbound on Highway 69. As she traveled down the road, she collided head-on with a 2012 Toyota Camry, which was being driven northbound by 37-year-old Jimmy D. Latham, also from Columbus.

The Heroic Rescue Effort

The scene was described as chaotic, with emergency services quickly responding to the crisis. Members of the District 3 Volunteer Fire Department arrived promptly and used the jaws of life in a heroic effort to rescue Latham from the wreckage of his vehicle. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, Latham was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe injuries he sustained in the crash. Witnesses reported that the firefighters worked tirelessly to cut the roof off the car in order to reach him.

Injuries and Aftermath

Mary Coley, the driver of the Pathfinder, also suffered injuries from the collision and was subsequently transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
