Come join us in Mississippi where the excitement is palpable as the much-awaited tax-free weekend kicks off on July 12, 2024. Families have started hitting their favorite stores to make the most of the reduced prices. The tax exemption, which runs through Sunday, covers a wide range of clothing items and school supplies under $100.
“I have two little girls so I’m just trying to wrap up a few things for the school year. I took off today because you can get tax-free on clothing items, school supplies and that kind of thing so every little bit helps with the way the economy is,” said local parent, Whitley Alford.
Like many, Fisher Fortner is an early bird shopper who has already started shopping. “I got some pants, I got some shorts, I got a shirt, that’s all the clothes I got,” said Fisher.
However, shoppers must bear in mind that the tax exemption does not cover sports equipment or tech products over the course of this weekend.
The comprehensive list of items that qualify for the tax-free weekend can be found on the official state website, dor.ms.gov. Families are encouraged to plan their weekend shopping trips based on this list to enjoy maximum savings.
