Starkville Utilities Launches Free Workshops to Help Residents Improve Home Energy Efficiency

Starkville Residents to Benefit from Free Energy Workshops

Starkville Utilities is stepping in with a series of free workshops designed to help residents understand how to seal up their homes and save on power bills. With energy rates from the Tennessee Valley Authority increasing by a noticeable 5%, this workshop series could be a timely lifesaver for many households in the community.

When and Where?

The workshops are happening at several locations:

  • November 6:
    • 11 a.m. at the Emerson Discovery Center
    • 5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church
    • 6:30 p.m. at the Starkville Sportsplex Annex Building
  • November 7:
    • 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Starkville Sportsplex Annex Building
    • 5:15 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection

Each session will last between 45 to 60 minutes and will be very interactive, allowing for plenty of questions.

What to Expect?

These workshops are especially crucial, as residents can learn practical steps to enhance their homes’ energy efficiency. Representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority will also help attendees discover which household appliances draw the most energy and what improvements can lead to significant savings on monthly bills.

Hands-on Takeaways

Attendees will leave with a special kit that includes energy-efficient light bulbs, weather strips, and caulk. These tools will help implement everything learned right away.

In addition, Starkville Utilities has a program for K-12 students focusing on energy efficiency education, and residents can benefit from the ongoing EnergyRight initiative, offering free home energy audits conducted by certified home energy advisors from TVA.

For those unable to schedule a home visit, a DIY Home Energy Assessment is available online. By participating, residents can receive valuable advice, an energy-saving kit, and a $10 gift card for home improvements, which is doubled to $20 until the end of the year.

Empowering the Community

The initiative aims to empower customers with the tools and information needed to make decisions about their utility usage, focusing on serving the community through education.
