In the heart of the idyllic city of Starkville situated in Northeast Mississippi, the First United Methodist Church has opened its doors to host an exceptional event, aptly named the ‘Attic Sale’. This event is part of the Church’s dedicated efforts to provide the local community an opportunity to purchase everyday necessities at significantly reduced prices.
With the rising costs of everyday items, countless families are confronted with financial constraints. Always mindful of the needs of their community, the First United Methodist Church has sought to alleviate this burden through the annual Attic Sale. The attic sale offers an assortment of items ranging from furniture and kitchen appliances to book bags and other household necessities, all at unbeatable prices.
Jacque Tisdale, Co-chair of the Attic Sale, expressed the event’s dual benefits, “It helps the person who donates the stuff because it gets it out of their way. And, the people that need can come buy it at a discount.” Tisdale added that the event assists those setting up apartments or trying to meet needs they cannot typically afford.
Lynn Berch, First United Methodist Church’s Assistant Financial Manager, shared the exceptional value available at the attic sale. “People can buy kitchenware for a dollar, and a whole set of furniture for 200 dollars,” she said. Lynn emphasized the significant savings potential, asserting, “You are going to go somewhere and pay $300 for something. When you can just come here and buy a lot for more your buck.”
The Attic Sale is an annual event which takes place each year in August. Its success lies in the collective effort of church members and the wider Starkville community. Donated items are put up for sale, offering community members the chance to find quality, reasonably priced items while supporting a noble cause.
