Starkville Teacher Joins Mississippi Teacher Advisory Council
In the vibrant city of Starkville, exciting news has emerged from the education community! A dedicated English teacher at Starkville High School has been chosen to serve on the prestigious 2024-25 Mississippi Teacher Advisory Council. This council is essential as it provides crucial insights to the state superintendent of education about various issues impacting Mississippi’s schools and serves as an opportunity to discuss and advocate for improvements in classroom learning.
A Commitment to Education
Her journey on this council began in August when she applied, driven by a passion for education and a deep love for Mississippi. She expressed a desire for the education system to be the very best it can be. Understanding that her influence in the classroom is just a piece of the larger puzzle, she aims to advocate for students and teachers on a more extensive scale. With this role, she hopes to actively participate in shaping solutions that will enhance education throughout the state.
A Teacher at Heart
Since stepping into her role as a teacher in the Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District in 2017, she has demonstrated commitment to education. She began her journey teaching sixth-grade reading at Armstrong Junior High School before transitioning to Starkville High School, engaging ninth and tenth graders in English. Presently, she teaches dual credit/dual enrollment English composition courses, blending high school graduation requirements with college-level coursework.
In addition to teaching, she is a National Board Certified Teacher and serves as the English lead teacher, supporting the entire English-Language Arts Department. Her passion for education extends beyond the classroom, underscoring her commitment to her students and colleagues alike.
The Power of Teacher Voices
One of the core reasons for her excitement to join the council is the potential to bring authentic teacher voices to the forefront. By serving on the council, she believes that providing a platform for teachers’ perspectives can enlighten decision-makers on classroom challenges and opportunities.
A Vision for the Future
Through her involvement in the council, she hopes to shed light on the real-world issues teachers face and engage with decision-makers who significantly influence education policy. By listening to teachers, she aims to provide valuable insights into effective classroom practices and ongoing challenges.
