On the morning of August 27, 2024, Starkville Police Department responded to an accident scene involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 12 and Russell Street/Stone Boulevard, in Starkville, Mississippi. This unfortunate incident resulted in the death of the motorcycle driver and minor injuries to the vehicle driver.
The police identified the deceased motorcyclist as 31-year-old Samuel Alan Shirley from Blytheville, Arkansas. Tragically, Shirley succumbed to his injuries at the OCH Regional Medical Center following the crash. The vehicle driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was also transported to the same medical facility for treatment of minor injuries.
Early reports reveal a white SUV involved in the accident, indicating significant damage on its passenger side. At the scene, a fire truck was present, and law enforcement officers were actively directing traffic to avoid further incidents.
The accident caused considerable traffic congestion but the wreckage was cleared shortly after the accident, restoring normal traffic flow.
The Starkville Police Department has plans to conduct a detailed reconstruction of the accident to understand better what transpired leading up to the crash. As of now, this unfortunate incident remains under investigation as officials piece together evidence from the scene alongside witness statements.
The citizens of Starkville are heartbroken over the loss of a life in this incident.
