STARKVILLE — The Starkville-MSU Community Band is all set to dazzle audiences with its final concert of the season featuring the talented Quincy Hilliard, a renowned composer and local gem!
Free Concert Awaits at Kent Sills Band Hall
The concert takes place at 2 p.m. in the Kent Sills Band Hall, located at 72 Hardy Road on the beautiful Mississippi State campus. Admission is absolutely FREE.
Meet Quincy Hilliard: A Starkville Native and Musical Maestro
Quincy Hilliard is a Starkville native whose musical journey has taken him far and wide. As the composer in residence at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Hilliard has penned music that resonates with bands from schools across the nation. His compositions were featured in the 1996 Olympic Games and the Library of Congress’ Bicentennial Celebration of Abraham Lincoln.
During the concert, Quincy will take on the role of emcee, guiding the audience through the musical lineup and providing entertaining insights about each piece.
A Community Band That Brings Us Together
The Starkville-MSU Community Band includes residents from the Golden Triangle region and is directed by the accomplished Johnny Folsom, a lecturer who supervises student interns in MSU’s Department of Music. Under his direction, the band has cultivated a repertoire that reflects the diverse tastes and talents within the community.

Hilliard’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in music education from MSU, a master’s from Arkansas State University, and a doctorate in music theory and composition from the University of Florida.
