This past weekend, Starkville was buzzing with excitement, not just because of the Halloween festivities, but also due to something special happening at Mississippi State University. The MSU Equestrian Team hosted their Horseback Adult Riding Days, a delightful event aimed at reconnecting adults with the world of horseback riding. This initiative, held twice a year, is not only a fantastic opportunity for adults to learn but also serves as a fundraiser for the equestrian team.
During the three-hour program, approximately twenty enthusiastic adults dove into the basics of horseback riding. They had the chance to groom, bond with, and, of course, ride horses in the scenic MSU South Farm. One of the event coordinators expressed motivation behind creating this program, which started just two years ago. Adults were given a chance to interact with these wonderful animals, as there are numerous opportunities for kids, but not as many for those just starting out or returning as adults.
Among the attendees were a few who had previously ridden horses in their youth and were eager to reignite that passion. One participant expressed excitement about getting back in the saddle after years away, highlighting her deep connection with these magnificent creatures.
For many, the experience transcended mere riding; it was also about emotional connection. Attendees spoke about the unique bond between humans and horses, noting that being around horses is incredibly meaningful and therapeutic, as they seem to mirror our feelings and emotions. Many found joy and solace in the presence of horses.
The MSU Equestrian Team is planning more events aimed at adult learners, ensuring that this beloved pastime remains accessible to those eager to learn. Future programs might include more detailed riding lessons, horseback riding clinics, and even fun-themed events that could draw in more local participants.
As people continue to discover the many physical and emotional benefits that come from horseback riding, this initiative seems to be the perfect blend of community engagement and personal enrichment. The connection made during these riding days reinforces the bond between the rider and horse while strengthening friendships among participants.
Starkville’s Horseback Adult Riding Days is truly a delightful reminder of the joy and camaraderie that can come from connecting with animals and fellow enthusiasts.
