Starkville Community Honors the Life of Frances “Fancy” Thomson George

Starkville Bids Farewell to Frances “Fancy” Thomson George

In a heartfelt farewell, the close-knit community of Starkville, Mississippi gathered to honor the life of Frances “Fancy” Thomson George. Frances, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, left behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched many hearts.

A Life Well-Lived in Starkville

Born on June 10, 1954, to Wilmot and Peggy Thomson, Frances was raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Greensboro Street. As a child, she found joy in a happy upbringing, surrounded by her brothers, Joe and Jim. Frances radiated positivity and enthusiasm throughout her life, embodying the spirit of southern charm.

Frances’ journey took a significant turn when she attended Starkville High School, where she showcased her talents as a member of the basketball team and the school band. True to her roots, she also embraced the social traditions of the South as a Debutante. Her achievements were just beginning, as she later graduated from Mississippi State University in 1974 with a degree in Finance, completing her studies in an impressive three years. During her time at MSU, Frances was actively involved in the Chi Omega Sorority, creating lifelong friendships along the way.

Love and Family

On September 30, 1977, Frances found her lifelong partner in Ernest “Ernie” George. Their marriage blossomed over an incredible 47 years, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together, they were active members of the Starkville community, involved in various organizations such as the Junior Auxiliary, the Women’s Club, and the First Presbyterian Church. Frances had a passion for sports and social activities, frequently participating in tennis and bridge games with friends.

Frances and Ernie were fortunate to travel to numerous countries, making memories that would last a lifetime. However, at the center of it all was Frances’ deep love for her family. She proudly embraced her role as “GG” to her grandchildren, Drew, Katie Clay George, and Luke, Maggie Iglay, showering them with affection and wisdom. Frances was not just a mother; she was a guiding light and a source of unconditional love to her children, Andrew George and Katie George Iglay, as well as her stepson, Thor George.

Embracing Legacy and Community

Frances’ kindness and compassion will always be remembered by those who had the honor of knowing her. She is survived by her loving husband Ernie, their children, grandchildren, and her brothers, Joe and Jim. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her parents, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift everyone she encountered.

The community will gather to pay their respects on Friday, November 22 at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church located at 307 University Drive, Starkville, MS. This ceremony will provide an opportunity for friends and family to celebrate Frances’ remarkable life and the lasting impact she made.

In Loving Memory

In honor of Frances’ compassionate spirit, the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to a charity close to your heart. The community invites everyone to share in this tribute, reflecting on the beautiful moments shared with Frances “Fancy” Thomson George.

As we say goodbye, we remember Frances not just for her absence but for the love and joy she brought into our lives. Her spirit will forever remain a cherished part of Starkville.
