For the 15th consecutive year, a volunteer group known as Almost Like Home took it upon themselves to ensure that essential workers were well-fed and appreciated on a day when most dining establishments were closed.

First Responders Eat Well Thanks to Generous Efforts

On this festive occasion, as families gathered to celebrate, many first responders were on duty, including William Fenimore, who has dedicated his holiday shifts to Fire Station One for three years. William will also be on duty for next year’s Christmas, showcasing his commitment to serving the community.

A fleet of 14 vehicles filled with delicious homemade meals was prepared and dispatched from the Courtyard Marriott Starkville parking garage. The generous donations, sourced from local businesses such as Brian Michaels Catering, Walk-Ons, and Modern Woodmen of America, ensured that first responders received a wonderful Christmas meal. Deliveries were made to vital institutions, including the MSU Police Department, Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, Starkville E-911 operators, Starkville Fire Department, and OCH Regional Medical Center.

Fires and Family Displacement

This year has been notably busy for the Starkville Fire Department. They responded to several significant incidents, including a fire that displaced families just before Christmas. Community members were quick to rally together, collecting clothes, essential items, and gifts for families affected by these tragic fires. With more than 75 donated Christmas gifts distributed to families in need, the care of local organizations, churches, and volunteers made a big difference.
