In the charming city of Starkville, Mississippi, excitement is brewing in the world of college baseball! A talented athlete from sunny California, Dax Hardcastle, has chosen to call Mississippi State University home, and it’s a decision that has fans buzzing.
Recently, Hardcastle made the long trek from California to Starkville and had no idea what to expect. However, after meeting with Coach Chris Lemonis and his dedicated staff, he quickly realized he had made the right choice. “I don’t know what my expectations were, but it was a place that really cared about baseball. They want to see the players succeed,” Hardcastle remarked. This is surely music to the ears of residents who pride themselves on their love for the game!
Hardcastle was particularly impressed by state-of-the-art facilities during his visit. He made special mention of the Palmeiro Center, the pitching lab, and the impressive weight room, calling them “amazing.” “Their facilities are also the best in the nation and that stood out,” he added, making it clear that Mississippi State University has the resources to help players grow and thrive.
On Monday, after weighing his options, Hardcastle made the leap and decided that Starkville would be his future home. Despite having visited top-tier programs like Oregon and Vanderbilt, MSU was a clear standout. He stressed the importance of wanting to be in an environment where he could thrive both as a player and as a person, saying, “I really wanted to be at a place where I’ll have the ability to play both ways.” With Starkville’s rich history and recent success, including their 2021 College World Series championship, it’s no wonder he felt a connection.
So, what’s next for this rising star? At just 6’4” and 225 pounds, Dax is already a force to be reckoned with. During his freshman and sophomore years, he shone brightly on the field, boasting an impressive batting average of .335 with 62 hits and a power packed performance that included three home runs and 45 RBIs. And let’s not forget his skills on the mound, where he can throw around 89-91 mph, with a staggering top speed of 94 mph!
Hardcastle is excited about the team’s plans for him. “I want to go in there and earn everything that I can,” he said. He acknowledged that discussions about his role would take place as he gets closer to campus, but his confidence is clear – he’s ready to compete and contribute to the Bulldogs’ success. “I’ll be able to go get outs on the mound. Hitting wise, I bring a power bat and I’m a solid defender on the corners,” he stated, exuding passion and determination.
Hardcastle’s commitment comes as part of a larger trend for Mississippi State baseball, as they actively work to bolster their 2026 class. The Diamond Dawgs recently added several recruits to their roster, thriving under the leadership of Coach Lemonis, who has been on a “recruiting heater,” as fans like to say. This addition reinforces the program’s goal of continued success and excellence on the diamond, leading Starkville to secure its place among the nation’s collegiate baseball elite.
As the Bulldogs gear up for the future, they have every reason to celebrate this dynamic addition. With players like Dax Hardcastle on their side, Starkville’s love for baseball is sure to continue flourishing both on and off the field. The fans and the community couldn’t be more excited to welcome this talented athlete and see how he helps write the next chapter of Mississippi State baseball’s legacy!
