On a cool Monday evening, archery enthusiasts gathered at the Springer Center in Starkville for an electrifying showdown between the talented archers of Starkville Academy and Starkville Christian. The event turned into an exciting spectacle for the community, showcasing local talent and strong competition right in the heart of the city.
In recent years, Starkville has become a hub for archery, and the recent meet was a testament to the passion residents have for the sport. Hosting such events fosters community spirit and strengthens relationships among local schools, something that Starkville Academy’s coach, Tate Fischer, takes immense pride in. This meet was dubbed an “All-Lynn Lane matchup,” which sparked excitement among spectators and participants alike. The competition was held at Partnership Middle School, where not only did Starkville High School compete, but they also showed incredible prowess on the field.
When the arrows settled and the dust cleared, it was Starkville High School that emerged victorious with a total score of 3,232 against Starkville Academy’s 3,085. Leading the way for Starkville High School was Cassin Gant, who impressed everyone with a whopping score of 280 points. Following closely behind were Elijah Morton and Jenna Holder, both scoring 279 points. Other notable archers included Hayden Johnson with 278, Jonathan Forrester with 272, and Felicity Andol who tallied 271 points.
Starkville Academy also had its moments of glory, with Jackson Waters scoring the highest of his team at 269 points. His teammates, Colton Smith, Jonathan Stancill, and Tina Trac, contributed significantly with scores of 265, 264, and 263 respectively. Each competitor aimed for that perfect score of 300 over six rounds, but the connections made and experiences gained are what truly matter in archery meets like this.
The excitement doesn’t stop here! Fans of archery can mark their calendars as Starkville High School prepares to host Tupelo this Thursday at 5 p.m., while Starkville Academy gears up to battle against West Point on February 21.
