Exciting developments are on the horizon for the friendly city of Starkville, as two public hearings are being organized to discuss a special request from local resident Norma Hendrix. This request is all about allowing the installation of an accessory structure in the front yard of her property located at 122 Frontier Drive.
The hearings will kick off with the Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 5:30 PM. This first session will take place in the Courtroom of City Hall. A second hearing will follow, scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 5:30 PM, involving the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. Both sessions will be held in the same venue.
For those who might not be familiar with the area, 122 Frontier Drive is situated beginning at the intersection of the north side of Westside Drive with the west side of Frontier Street. From that point, it runs north along Frontier Street, covering a distance of 75 feet to the southeast corner of Lot 34. Then it stretches west along the south side of Lot 34 for 150 feet until it reaches the southwest corner. After that, it heads south for another 75 feet to meet the north side of Westside Drive, and finally, it runs east along that side for 150 feet back to the starting point.
This area falls under a TN-E zoning district, which plays a significant role in determining what can and cannot be added to properties in the vicinity.
The upcoming hearings provide an opportunity for the community to engage with the city’s planning process. Residents passionate about Starkville’s development and how it reflects the community’s character can participate in these public forums.
Copies of the request submitted by Norma Hendrix are available for public inspection at City Hall, specifically in the Community Development Department. This is an opportunity to gather more information before the hearings.
For any questions, the city’s planning staff is available to provide clarity on specifics regarding the hearings or the zoning regulations at play.
