Residents of South Pontotoc, you’re in for a treat! The South Pontotoc girls wrestling team has been making quite a splash this season, showing off their skills and determination with significant wins.
Just recently, they celebrated an exciting victory over Starkville, a team known to compete in the challenging Class 7A division. That’s right, our girls are mixing it up against some tough competitors!

A Season of Achievements

As of mid-December, the girls hold a respectable record of 4 wins and 3 losses in their inaugural season. This impressive start has been bolstered by various individual accolades, particularly from Brayden Holley, who shone brightly with wins against teams like North Pontotoc, Olive Branch, and DeSoto Central in competitions held on December 10 and 12. Talk about a batting average!

Coach Jana Call beams with pride at what the team has accomplished so far. Despite being a first-year team up against players from well-established programs, our Lady Cougars are holding their own and gaining recognition from opposing coaches for their skill and resilience.

Facing the Tough Competition

The South Pontotoc girls continue to learn and grow, practicing hard after every match. Competing against seasoned 7A schools is no small feat, yet they’re staying competitive and focused on improvement. Each practice is an opportunity to sharpen their skills and build as a cohesive team, proving that they are much more than just rookies in this arena.

North Pontotoc Celebrates Their Own Wins

North Pontotoc Lady Vikings are also making headlines, recently competing in the Wave Invitational tournament in Tupelo on December 14. They ended up taking home a solid 2nd place finish, with Emma Burk snagging an impressive spot as an individual in the competition. Carson Hale also put on a stellar show, finishing 5th in the 144-pound weight class.

It’s not just the girls making waves over at North Pontotoc—the boys wrestling team also hit the mat hard, wrapping up their competition with a strong 2nd place finish against Millington Central from Tennessee. It’s a big moment for all wrestlers involved, showcasing their hard work and grit.

Undefeated and Unstoppable

Kaleeanna Moore from South Pontotoc remains undefeated. Along with her, Jaelyn Elgin from North Pontotoc showcased her exceptional talents, consistently rising through the ranks. It’s clear that these athletes are here to stay!

The First Face-Off

North and South Pontotoc faced off against each other for the very first time. It was an electrifying match where the North Pontotoc team ended up winning with a score of 36-30. Despite South winning five out of six head-to-head matches, the overall score showed just how competitive and thrilling the match was!
