South Pontotoc Girls Wrestling Team Achieves Remarkable Success in Inaugural Season

Pontotoc County: South Pontotoc Girls Wrestling Team Shines in Inaugural Season

The South Pontotoc girls wrestling team is making waves in their first season, showcasing impressive talent and determination. Recently, they celebrated a remarkable victory over Starkville, a formidable opponent from Class 7A. This milestone comes as the team approaches the holiday break with a promising 4-3 record.

Successful Matches

The strength of the team is exemplified by Brayden Holley, who achieved notable individual victories against strong teams including North Pontotoc, Olive Branch, Starkville, and DeSoto Central. Competing on December 10 and 12, Holley’s performance contributed significantly to the recent victories.

A Positive Start

Coach Jana Call expressed her pride and satisfaction with the team’s performance so far. “I have been really impressed with the effort and resilience shown by our girls team,” she said. This is their first year, and several coaches from opposing schools have noted how well they are performing for a first-year team.” Call emphasized that the girls are not just participating; they are competing against schools that have been established in the wrestling community for years.

Facing the Challenge

The decision to engage with Class 7A schools was strategic. By challenging themselves against more experienced teams, the South Pontotoc girls are accelerating their growth and honing their skills. “We are learning more every practice,” Call added, highlighting the valuable lessons they glean from each encounter on the mat.

Community Support

The wrestling program has garnered significant community support. Parents, friends, and local fans turned up to cheer on the girls during their matches, creating a vibrant and encouraging atmosphere. This sense of community pride reinforces the importance of youth sports in bringing people together and fostering school spirit.

Looking Ahead

As the new year approaches, the South Pontotoc girls wrestling team is poised to continue their growth. With practices resuming after the holiday season, the team plans to build on their current successes. Coach Call remains optimistic and committed to developing the talents of her athletes, ensuring they are prepared for future competitions.

Conclusion

The early achievements of the South Pontotoc girls wrestling team reflect their hard work and dedication. By competing diligently against seasoned opponents, they are establishing a strong foundation for their future in the sport. Fans of the program will certainly be watching closely as the team progresses through the rest of their inaugural season.
