HSFT Stop #3: Smithville Roundup for 2024 High School Football Tour
The seminoles of Smithville are seeking redemption in the upcoming football season, after a challenging season in 2023. The Head Coach Chad Collums expresses optimism towards the new team dynamics, attributing their previous failures to a slow start.
Football Aspirations for the Seminoles of Smithville
Experiencing a three-game win during the 2023 football season, Smithville is thirsty for a comeback. Expectations are high for the young team, that is processing the loss of pivotal players like wide receiver Barker O’Brian and quarterback Chandler Brunetti.
In their stead, Senior Carson Spann is expected to fill the quarterback role. Spann sees this as more than just a position, but an opportunity to uplift his team.”>I like being a leader and helping my teammates out,” Spann shared.
His desire to be a positive game changer is resonating with the rest of the Seminoles. A senior left tackle, Chase Tipton, agreed saying, “Just gotta have a better attitude. Everybody show up and be in it as a team.”
Offseason Preparations
Ambitious to break free from the rut of previous season’s winless district play, the Seminoles are committed to improving their performance. They have revamped their strategies and are optimistic about the upcoming challenges.
Spann recognized that the team struggled both offensively and defensively last year. However, the attendee’s response in the off-season practices, gives him confidence about the potential improvement in both areas.
Football coach, Collums rightly pointed, “We kind of broke everything down offensively and defensively and they did a really good job of learning everything.” He is hopeful that this will result in a positive impact on their gameplay.
Looking Ahead
The Seminoles are slated to kick off their season with a game against Belmont on August 30. The question remains on whether their off-season training will pay off and convert last year’s losses into victories this season.
