Starkville Gears Up for an Inspiring Weekend with the Third Annual Smart Girls Summit

This Saturday, the Boys and Girls Club of Starkville is hosting its much-anticipated third annual Smart Girls Summit, and excitement is in the air! This empowering event is specifically designed for young women aged 8 to 18, offering them a chance to grow, learn, and connect with outstanding leaders in the community. The summit will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the clubhouse located on Lynn Lane.

A Day to Inspire Young Female Leaders

The heart of the Smart Girls Summit lies in its mission to foster leadership skills among the next generation of young women. With two amazing keynote speakers lined up, attendees can expect a day filled with inspiration and wisdom! Ward 1 Alderwoman Kim Moreland and United Way executive director Renee Sanders will take the stage to share their experiences and encourage young participants to embrace their leadership potential.

Kim Moreland: A Champion for Confidence

One of the key focus areas during the summit will be instilling confidence in young girls. Moreland aims to inspire attendees by emphasizing that they can aspire to any job, regardless of gender. Her speech will surround leadership and character, illustrating how important it is for girls to stand firm in their values and always aim to do what is right.

Renee Sanders: Community Engagement from an Early Age

Meanwhile, Sanders plans to equip the young ladies with essential leadership skills and the importance of community engagement right from the start. Her insights will help attendees understand how their contributions can make a difference and motivate them to get involved in community service.

Breakout Sessions: Hands-On Learning

To enhance the experience even further, both keynote speeches will be followed by breakout sessions catered to different age groups. Participants will have the chance to dive into hands-on leadership workshops led by skilled speakers. Santee Ezell will guide ages 8-9, while Melissa Rogers will engage those aged 10-11. Moving on, SaPerior Patton will connect with ages 11-13, and Shonna Illman will wrap things up with ages 14-18. This age-specific approach ensures tailored experiences for everyone!

Exciting Expectations for Attendance

150 and 200 girls, which marks a significant growth from last year’s 100 participants and the previous year’s 30. This rising trend reflects the growing interest in female empowerment and community leadership amongst Starkville’s young women.

The Power of Connection
