News Summary

Oktibbeha County is set to welcome a new neighborhood development featuring 150 homes on a 98-acre site near Highway 182. This project aims to address growing housing demands and includes recreational amenities for families. The initiative, supported by local leaders and funding from the American Rescue Plan, is expected to enhance the community’s economic prospects and convenience, particularly for graduates and professionals commuting to the Golden Triangle Industrial Park.

Exciting New Neighborhood Development Coming to Oktibbeha County!

Hey there, Oktibbeha County residents! Big news is on the horizon as a brand-new neighborhood development is set to transform our community. Atlanta-based real estate firm, Forest Street Partners, has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct 150 beautiful homes on a sprawling 98-acre property just off Highway 182, right next to Triangle Drywall Supply. This project is all set to cater to the growing housing demands in our area and is sure to bring a fresh vibe!

What Can We Expect?

Imagine a fully gated community that offers not just homes but also swimming and recreational areas where families can come together to relax and enjoy life. This new neighborhood sounds like the perfect oasis for both young professionals and families alike, making it an ideal spot for everyone in the community.

Addressing Housing Needs

District 2 Supervisor Orlando Trainer has stressed the importance of this development. With increased housing options, we can expect an influx of families and recent graduates from nearby Mississippi State University to stick around, helping to bolster our local economy and strengthen our community ties. After all, it’s crucial to keep our talented graduates within the county!

Location, Location, Location!

This new housing development isn’t just about homes; it’s also about convenience. The location is strategically chosen for easy commutes to nearby West Point and Columbus, making it especially attractive for those working in the Golden Triangle Industrial Park. Employment opportunities are essential for a thriving community, and this development could play a part in making that happen.

Overcoming Challenges

However, like any ambitious project, there have been some bumps along the road. The development was initially stalled for over a year, primarily due to the need for expanded wastewater services from the East Oktibbeha Wastewater District. But not to worry! Starkville has plans to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant to ensure that we have the capacity needed for this exciting new neighborhood.

Funding the Future

Thanks to the allocation of $700,000 in American Rescue Plan funds by Oktibbeha County supervisors, along with a matching grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, we are moving forward with this essential infrastructure improvement. The bids for installing the new wastewater line are already out, meaning we are one step closer to making this community a reality!

What’s Next?

The full installation of the new wastewater line is expected to wrap up in two to three years, which offers some time for the treatment plant upgrades to be completed. The mayor of Starkville has noted that upgrading aerators could take about 1 to 1.5 years, with another year needed for headworks installation. There is a solid plan in place to ensure everything runs smoothly!

Conclusion

As the wheels begin to turn on this new neighborhood development in Oktibbeha County, it’s important for all of us to stay informed and involved. This project not only represents new opportunities for housing but also fosters community growth and economic stability. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as we move forward together!
