Warm Hearts in Starkville as Hubbard Family Celebrates New Home Built by Community Effort

Warm Hearts in Starkville: A New Home for the Hubbards

STARKVILLE, Miss. – As the leaves turn and the season of gratitude approaches, the Hubbard family in Starkville has a special reason to give thanks this year. The family proudly accepted the keys to their brand new home during an emotional dedication ceremony. This home is not just any house; it’s the 2023 Maroon Edition House, a testament to community spirit and collaboration.

The Maroon Edition build is the result of a wonderful partnership between Mississippi State University (MSU) and the Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity. Together, they have turned blueprints into reality, illustrating what can happen when a community comes together to support its members. This initiative actively engages not just volunteers but also students, faculty, and even retirees from MSU, creating a sense of belonging and purpose.

A Community Coming Together

From its inception, the Maroon Build was designed to be more than just a construction project; it aimed to weave a fabric of partnership and support throughout Starkville. For MSU students, this has been an opportunity to make a lasting impact in the community they are a part of, which often extends beyond their time as students.

Dr. Regina Hyatt, the Vice President of Student Affairs at MSU, eloquently expressed the philosophy behind the initiative: “We’re all in this together. This is a community, and we have an opportunity and an obligation to help each other. For our students, I hope that they see this as an opportunity to extend themselves beyond themselves, to really, meaningfully pour into someone else’s life.”

With the help of many volunteers who invested their time and energy, the house was built using a blend of student dedication and community pride. It wasn’t just about hammering nails or painting walls; it was about creating memories and relationships that would last a lifetime. The completion of the Hubbard Home marks a significant milestone not just for the family but for the entire Starkville community.

The Joy of New Beginnings

Stepping into their new home, the Hubbards found themselves filled with hope and excitement. The significance of having a cozy space to call their own—especially during the Thanksgiving season—cannot be overstated. The home represents a fresh start and a place where new memories will be crafted, feasts will be shared, and laughter will resonate through the halls.

For Twana Hubbard and her family, this house signifies much more than four walls and a roof. It is a dream made real through the commitment and hard work of many individuals, and it stands as a beacon of what can be achieved when community members unite for a common cause.

Inspiring Future Generations

The impact of this initiative reaches beyond just the Hubbards. It serves as an inspiring example for other students and community members, encouraging them to participate in future build projects and similar charitable initiatives. The cooperative effort demonstrates the importance of taking action and making a difference in the lives of others.

As we look forward to the holiday season, the story of the Hubbard family shines brightly amidst the backdrop of gratitude and generosity. This year, while many gather around their tables to celebrate Thanksgiving, the Hubbards will be doing so in a new home, surrounded by the memories of their journey, the support of their community, and the promise of a bright future.

The commitment to giving back and fostering connections within the Starkville community is a beautiful reminder that together, we can build not just houses, but homes filled with love, laughter, and lasting bonds.
