STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State University (MSU) is set for the broadening of their psychological assistance to the community with a new, expanded space laden with more mental health services. The Psychology Clinic of MSU held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to commence this noble venture.
From providing therapy to conducting specialized assessments, the MSU Psychology Clinic will cater to all ages. The clinic aims to counter the stark lacuna in mental health services across Mississippi, known for its high mental health needs. It bolsters a concerted, community-led effort towards public health.
The clinic isn’t just a hub for mental health services but also a pivotal training ground for MSU’s graduate students. The University’s aspiring psychologists will render these services, thereby serving the community and their fellow classmates.
Emily Stafford, Director of The Psychology Clinic, said they anticipate both local and distant clients. People in need of specialized assessments might even travel several hours to visit the facility. “We are working together towards something beneficial to the public health and one of our concerns is that Mississippi is an area where there is a lack of service and there’s a lot of mental health needs,” added Tram Nguyen, a graduate student of MSU.
The community members can contact Mississippi State’s Psychology Clinic at (662)325-0270 for availing these services. The clinic’s new home, upgraded facilities, and student-led services mark a positive shift in addressing the prevalent mental health needs. Furthermore, this initiative will provide a hands-on training experience for the MSU graduate students, preparing them to ably serve the community in the future.
The newly inaugurated MSU clinic perfectly embodies this vision: to make effective and specialized mental health services accessible to all, regardless of their location. Expansion is not merely physical but also encompasses the inclusion and active service to the entire community’s mental health needs. This commitment to condensed psychological assistance shall help communities combat mental health issues at the grassroots level.
