New Mississippi State University Clinic Primed for Expansion and Relocation

STARKVILLE, Miss. –

Mississippi State University’s (MSU) Psychology Clinic is poised for a new chapter of expansion and outreach as it celebrates the inauguration of its new location with a significant increase in space and the provision of additional mental health services.

The clinic’s relocation signals a fresh start not only for the facility’s expansion but also for broadening its impact by serving a wider community, including MSU students.

Strengthening Community Mental Health Care

We provide therapy and assessment services for all ages. So we do have a lot of local folks that come to see us, but for some people, if they need a specialized assessment, they might drive several hours to come and see us,” stated Emily Stafford, the Director of The Psychology Clinic.

The new location augments the clinic’s capacity to deliver comprehensive mental health services through therapy and psychological evaluations to individuals across different age groups, thus tightening its grip as a community stronghold. In the past, patients requiring specialized assessments have traveled significant distances to seek the clinic’s services, a testament to its reputation and the quality of its services.

Addressing the Demand for Mental Health Services in Mississippi

MSU graduate student Tram Nguyen added value to the conversation, highlighting the critical role of the clinic in addressing the mental health care gaps in the State, “We are working together towards something beneficial to the public health and one of our concerns is that Mississippi is an area where there is a lack of service and there’s a lot of mental health needs.”

The limited availability and access to mental health services in Mississippi have been a long-standing concern. With the new location and expanded enrollment, the Psychology Clinic has stepped up its efforts to mitigate this issue, bringing the services closer to the community that needs it the most.

Looking Forward

The Psychology Clinic at MSU is positively shaping the narrative of mental health in Mississippi by expanding its boundaries. Its new location primes the clinic for greater prospects, as it continues to reinvent its strategies in delivering quality mental health care services to the community.

Wide-reaching community engagement, comprehensive therapeutic services, and emphasis on breaking down barriers to mental health care access make MSU’s Psychology Clinic a committed partner on the frontlines of mental health advocacy in the State. Its continuous expansion and robust presence serve as a beacon of hope for many grappling with mental health challenges in Mississippi.
