Mizzou Triumphs Over Mississippi State with 39-20 Victory in SEC Clash

Starkville, Mississippi: Mizzou Takes Down Mississippi State 39-20 in SEC Showdown

What a thrilling afternoon it was at Davis Wade Stadium as the No. 23 Missouri Tigers found their groove, overcoming a shaky start to dominate the Mississippi State Bulldogs with a decisive 39-20 victory. Mizzou’s performance was one for the books as they improved their record to 8-3, with a 4-3 standing in the SEC.

Hard-Fought Battle

Despite their record of 2-8 and the fact that this was a must-win moment for the Bulldogs, they came out swinging, fueled by a bye week. The game kicked off at 3:15 p.m. CT, and the energy was palpable! The Bulldogs were hungry for their first conference win, while the Tigers aimed to shake off a tight 34-30 loss to South Carolina just a week prior.

Things got off to a rocky start for Mizzou when Mississippi State struck first with a 38-yard field goal, making it 3-0.

Turning the Tide

But the Tigers didn’t let that rattle them. Defensive lineman Kristian Williams made a huge impact with a strip sack that turned the momentum in Missouri’s favor, leading to a touchdown from Daylan Carnell who dashed 70 yards for a stunning score. Suddenly, Mizzou led 7-3.

It didn’t stop there! Quarterback Brady Cook, who had been battling a wrist injury, threw an impressive 28-yard pass to Luther Burden for another touchdown, pushing the score to 21-10 by the end of the first quarter. If the Tigers’ fans were nervous early on, they were quickly put at ease as their team began to find its rhythm.

Second Half Surge

The second half saw more of the same, with Mizzou’s running game surging. Nate Noel and Marcus Carroll showcased their skills, combining for multiple first downs and even mixing in a few highlight-reel plays. Carroll reached the end zone not once but three times, bringing the crowd to their feet and sealing the Bulldogs’ fate.

Midway through the third quarter, after a strong eight-minute, 46-second drive, Mizzou capped it off with a 35-yard field goal, extending their lead to 31-13. Talk about taking control!

Final Push

The Bulldogs didn’t go down without a fight. They managed to find the end zone, with a 44-yard touchdown run from Davon Booth, narrowing the score to 31-20. But Missouri was relentless, and they answered with another touchdown, with Carroll crossing the goal line from just one yard out. The Tigers capped off the day with a two-point conversion, finalizing the score at 39-20.

Looking Ahead

Now, with their eyes set on their final regular-season game, Mizzou will host the Arkansas Razorbacks next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.. The Tigers are hoping to keep the momentum going as they prepare for what could be a pivotal matchup as they aim for a possible bowl game appearance.

As fans left Davis Wade Stadium, one thing was clear: Mizzou proved they can tackle adversity and come out on top! What a way to close the road season!
