In the vibrant city of Starkville, a wave of pride and accomplishment is washing over Mississippi State University as its student-athletes have hit a remarkable milestone this fall. With a stellar average GPA of 3.34, these driven individuals are not just making headlines on the field but also in the classroom, proving that sports and academics can go hand in hand!
This impressive achievement marks the 15th consecutive semester that Mississippi State’s student-athletes have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher. It’s a testament to their dedication, not just to their sports but also to their academic pursuits. Under the guidance of their coaches, support staff, and the broader campus community, these athletes have shown that hard work truly pays off.
In Fall 2024 alone, 45 student-athletes proudly donned their caps and gowns, completing their degrees and stepping into a bright future. The university has also achieved an all-time high Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of an impressive 93% according to the latest NCAA report, indicating that Mississippi State is paving the way for students to thrive both academically and athletically.
Adding to the academic accolades, Mississippi State exceeded the NCAA benchmark for the Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 930 across all intercollegiate sports programs. This accomplishment reflects the hard work and perseverance of these student-athletes who manage to juggle rigorous training schedules while excelling in their educational endeavors.
Among the shining stars this semester is Maddy Anderson, a dedicated goalkeeper and academic powerhouse, who has been awarded the title of 2024 Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division I by College Sports Communicators. With a perfect GPA of 4.0, Anderson is pursuing her master’s degree in Kinesiology, having previously completed her bachelor’s degree in Psychology—also with a perfect GPA!
This year marks Anderson’s third consecutive Academic All-America recognition, making her one of just nine Mississippi State student-athletes to achieve this level of honor. Not only has she excelled in academics, but she also showcased her talents on the soccer field during the remarkable 2024 season, where she was recognized as the SEC Goalkeeper of the Year with a total of 14 shutouts—a performance that placed her second in the nation!
Anderson’s contributions extend beyond athletics; she is deeply committed to community service and mentorship within the university. Her accolades don’t stop there—she was named a First Team All-SEC selection and earned spots on multiple all-tournament and community service teams. The impact she’s made in Starkville is truly commendable!
