In a bid to promote literacy and a love for books, Kealy Shields from a local Columbian news outlet participated in the final week of the summer reading program at the Columbus Lowndes Public Library. With Mother Goose leading the charge, children enjoyed the gift of storytelling, singing, and even dancing to popular favorites like the Hokey Pokey.
Amidst stories and giggles, Kealy assumed an integral role during the program, reading out to the eager children, joining them in the joyous songs, and even refereeing the annual stuffed animal race. This was a fun and creative attempt to bring about in a unique blend of entertainment and education, keeping the essence of summer intact.
One primary objective of the summer reading program was to introduce children to the magical world of the library, fuel their curiosity, and nurture an early love for reading. It is believed that an early exposure to reading can tremendously benefit a child’s cognitive development, imagination and critical thinking skills.
Throughout the program, Mother Goose maintained an aura of amusement and fascination, holding the children’s attention and guiding them on a fantastical journey through songs and stories. With her at the helm, it was fun-filled learning for everyone. Kealy joining Mother Goose only added an exciting layer to this already vibrant atmosphere.
More than 100 children participated in the program on its closing day, with smiles and laughter filling the library. Despite marking the end of the program, this day was about celebrating reading, a gathering dedicated to fostering a community of budding bookworms and future storytellers.
As summer draws to a close, the end of the Summer Reading Program marks an annual tradition. However, the participants’ enthusiasm is a guarantee that this much-loved event will return next year, continuing the tradition of promoting reading and fostering a sense of community among the young readers.
Staying true to the spirit of summer – fun, learning, and creating memories, the Summer Reading Program was indeed a hit. With the joint efforts of the public library, Mother Goose, and special appearances like that of Kealy Shields, the children of Columbus can proudly claim their summer to be an enlightening and entertaining one.
