STARKVILLE – The city of Starkville and Mississippi State University are bracing themselves for a night of mesmerizing melodies, as multi-Grammy winner, John Paul White is set to take to the stage in October. Known for his unique fusion of Southern rock, Americana, and country music, White’s concert is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated events of the season.
The music star will perform at The Hump, on October 18, accompanied by The Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra. The doors for the event will open at 6:30 p.m. with the grand performance scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Daniel Stevens, head of the MSU Department of Music and an acquaintance of White’s, will be the conductor for this special evening. Expressing his enthusiasm about the concert, Stevens stated, “We all know how enjoyable one of John Paul’s concerts can be, and with the complements of the orchestra his music is magnified. I hope people of all ages will travel from the farthest corners for this rare crossover performance.”
John Paul White has had a successful career in the music industry, marked by multiple Grammy wins as a former member of The Civil Wars. The title track of the duo’s 2009 EP “Poison and Wine,” was featured in the sixth season of a popular TV show, propelling them to national fame.
White’s lyrics for the song “Safe and Sound,” co-written with global sensation Taylor Swift for “The Hunger Games” soundtrack, brought him further into the spotlight. The track was a 2011 Grammy winner for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
With an artist of White’s caliber performing, it’s no surprise that tickets are in high demand. Prospective patrons can reserve student tickets for free online or in person at MSU’s Center for Student Activities, located at Colvard Student Union, third floor. Individual tickets are also available for purchase online.
This event promises a remarkable entertainment offering a blend of genres accompanied by an orchestra, making for a musical treat that fans are eagerly waiting for. Don’t miss out on the chance to witness Grammy-winning music live at The Hump!
