Heath Whitlock Gears Up for Exciting Move to Starkville
Key player Heath Whitlock, instrumental in securing the second state title in baseball for Starr’s Mill High School (GA), is gearing up for a thrilling transition to Mississippi State. With each passing moment, Whitlock’s excitement for the upcoming season grows, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter.
A Glorious Ending to High School Career
Last season, Starr’s Mill High School achieved an impressive record of 33 wins and only two losses, culminating in a flawless 10-0 sweep through the 4A state playoffs. Heath Whitlock, the standout player and Mississippi State signee, played a pivotal role in this victorious journey. At the season’s close, Whitlock received accolades such as First Team All-State by the Georgia Dugout Club and 4A player and pitcher of the year in Region 4AAA.
Three years after committing to Mississippi State, Whitlock is now prepared for the transition, eagerly anticipating the opportunities that lie ahead.
Tailoring the College Dream
Heath Whitlock shared, “I’ve basically just been getting ready to leave. I think it’s down to eleven days now. I’ve just been working out and hitting. I’m excited to go.” Whitlock has been honing his skills and preparing for his collegiate baseball journey. His senior year held special significance, allowing him to savor victory alongside lifelong friends.
A Promising Group
Whitlock is part of a talented Mississippi State 2024 signing class, featuring All-American title holders, state champions, and players who have showcased their abilities at the Major League Baseball combine. Whitlock believes in the potential of this group to achieve great success.
Regarding his future teammates, Whitlock mentioned, “I think it’s a special group. When we went on our officials, everybody was nice. We had a good bond with everyone.”
Bonding with the Dawgs
During an official meeting in September, the camaraderie among the team members and coaches was evident. Whitlock is poised to begin his college career as a pitcher, aiming to repay the trust and support shown by coaches Kyle Cheesebrough and Jake Gatreau.
Expressing his commitment to the team, Whitlock stated, “I am going to play to win… I am going to give 110% when I get on that field. If you just look at that field, there is no atmosphere like it. It just makes you want to play there.”
