In a surprising development this month, one of Starkville’s beloved Mexican restaurants, Guadalajara Bar and Grill, has closed its doors permanently after struggling with employment issues. The restaurant, which was located at 211 Hwy. 12., opened just little over a year ago and quickly won a place in the hearts and stomachs of locals with its authentic Mexican fare.
Guadalajara Bar and Grill’s owner Juan Murillo confirmed the closure in a statement to the media, citing difficulty in “hiring good employees and keeping them” as one of the principal reasons for the shutdown. Known for its delectable ceviche and lively atmosphere, the restaurant was housed in a previously occupied Pizza Hut building, presenting a unique dining experience that delighted residents and visitors.
Despite the loss of this popular establishment, the situation is not all grim – the restaurant’s closure opens up prime real estate in a recently renovated building, creating the potential for a new business to find a home in Starkville. With a prime location on Hwy. 12, prospective entrepreneurs will find a perfect spot to establish their businesses and contribute to the evolving landscape of the city.
Moving to the outskirts of the town along Old West Point Road, the beloved Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center is gearing up for a grand reopening following a series of major renovations. The educational and recreational facility, established in 1996, has undergone significant improvements in recent months, including installing new decking, painting and priming cabins, and conducting extensive trail maintenance.
The grand reopening celebration slated for Aug. 8 is expected to run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m and will offer an array of activities. From Snowie Cool Treats to entertainment by the Columbus High School Indoor Percussion Group, cupcakes and cookies, a water safety program, and a spread of STEM projects, the event promises to be a fun-filled gathering for the community.
Turning to developments in the restaurant scene, the local Sonic outlet along Highway 45 has been temporarily closed for plumbing repairs. Sonic’s public relations manager Brent Burke assured that the popular fast food establishment expects to resume operations by the end of the week, much to the delight of its patrons.
In other retail news, Belk is set to launch its brand new MAC makeup counter with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. on Aug. 9. The event will feature exclusive deals and giveaways from noon, including complimentary mascara with every MAC purchase, live makeup tutorials, and the chance to win $300 worth of MAC products.
Finally, in an exciting announcement, Ledrico Isaac has informed that Yo’ Bar is set to make a comeback for its third stint. Originally opened in 2018 on Highway 45, the bar relocated to 3500 Bluecutt Road in 2020 only to close down in December of the same year. Following his promise of a comeback, Isaac announced that the bar will reopen in a new location and sport a fresh menu and vibe.
