Starkville, the city known for its fantastic gastronomy, has been dealt a culinary blow with news that one of its most beloved Mexican restaurants, Guadalajara Bar and Grill, has closed down for good. Located at the prime location of 211 Hwy. 12, Guadalajara Bar and Grill bid adieu this month. The restaurant owner, Juan Murillo, confirmed the closure, attributing it to difficulties in hiring and retaining good staff.
Established just over a year ago in what was formerly a Pizza Hut, Guadalajara won the hearts of many with its exceptional food, particularly its famed ceviche. Despite its closure, however, this recent development has presented a unique opportunity for a new enterprise to take its place at this high-profile spot that has been recently renovated and is ready for occupancy.
On a more optimistic note, Starkville continues to thrive with the grand reopening of Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center, one of the most favored spots lined on the Old West Point Road towards Columbus. The environmental center, which had been temporarily closed for major renovation projects, will celebrate its reconstruction with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 8.
Over the past few months, the center has undergone essential maintenance tasks including painting and priming of the cabins, installation of new decking, as well as overall trail maintenance. The grand reopening will feature a delightful array of activities including Snowie Cool Treats, entertainment by the Columbus High School Indoor Percussion Group, a water safety program, and STEM projects for the kids. Plymouth Bluff, which was established in 1996 as a 190-acre education and recreation park, is also renowned for its free walking and running trails.
In the fast-food scene, the popular Sonic outlet on Highway 45 has been temporarily closed for a scheduled plumbing overhaul. Sonic public relations manager Brent Burke assured patrons that they can expect the restaurant to be up and running by the end of the week.
Beauty enthusiasts will have something to look forward to as the renowned department store Belk is set to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of its new MAC makeup counter on August 9. The opening will bring exciting deals and gifts such as free mascara with any MAC purchase and even a chance to win a hefty amount of MAC products worth $300.
Finally, there’s good news for the nightlife lovers as Yo’ Bar is rumored to be making a comeback. Initially established in 2018 and later moved to 3500 Bluecutt Road in 2020, Yo’ Bar had to shut its doors last December. The owner, Ledrico Isaac, however, hinted at a comeback during that time. True to his word, Isaac recently announced on social media that Yo’ Bar Columbus aims to return in a new avatar with a fresh location, an appealing menu, and never-seen-before vibes. For more updates on its reopening, potential customers can follow the bar’s social media pages.
To sum up, while the closure of Guadalajara Bar and Grill is indeed a loss for the culinary scene in Starkville, the reopening of Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center, Sonic, and Yo’ Bar brings a fresh air of optimism for the locals and promises better times ahead.
