Golden Triangle Dream Center Holds Children’s Celebration in West Point

WEST POINT, Miss. – The Golden Triangle Dream Center (GTDC) hosted a lively and interactive Kid’s Jam event on Saturday at Mossy Oak Pavilion. The event was brimming with backyard games, a hula hoop contest, and a plethora of activities designed to bring both fun and support to children in the local community, particularly those from single-parent households or without a father figure.

Engaging Kids in Holistic Ways

Founding Director of GTDC, John Almond, elucidated the goal of the event and their most crucial mission in his address:

“The idea of the Kidz Jam is to just engage the neighborhood kids. We know from our Beds 4 Kids program that a little less than two percent of these children have a father presence at home. We can’t replace a dad’s role, but we can engage with the kids who do not have parental support or those who do – because we want entire families at our events, to just have fun. We also want them to know that they are loved, not just by the community, but especially by us at the Dream Center. But most importantly, the message we are trying to give them is that they are loved by God.”

The Kid’s Jam event was completely free, making it accessible for families of all financial backgrounds. It was a day of community outreach in a vibrant yet relaxed setting, creating a great way to wrap up the summer with family and friends.

Mission to ‘Be a Home Away From Home’

The GTDC aims to be a refuge for families, especially children who need an additional support network. By organizing events like Kidz Jam, they hope to create lasting relationships with these families, ensuring they know that someone cares for their wellbeing.

The support for single-parent families and those without a father figure at home, as mentioned by Almond, comes with the organization’s noble initiative ‘Beds 4 Kids’. The programme helps to mitigate the adverse impacts of having a lack of constant paternal presence, a situation facing an overwhelming two percent of children involved with the organization.

User Feedback

The event received an overwhelming response, with kids enjoying an array of fun-filled activities and parents getting a much-needed break, creating memories of a joyful and enriching day.

The GTDC Kid’s Jam event was more than just a day of fun; it was a testament to the resilience of the community and the tenacity of an organization bent on making positive contributions to children’s lives. It was nothing short of an inspiring show of love and inclusiveness for a brighter and optimistic future. A day truly reflecting the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”.
