French Camp, known for its resilience and grit, awaits yet another exciting high school football season. Coach Nathan Wright is ready to lead his team into battle on the gridiron. As he embarks on his 21st season at the helm of French Camp football, he reflects on what over two decades of experience have taught him.
“It definitely helps you to be a lot more patient,” Wright said. “I know I’ve done a lot of things wrong, and still do, but I’m definitely a lot more patient and I think that probably helps more than anything.”
The Panthers are driven by a fierce determination to overturn the disappointments of a challenging 3-8 season last year that ended in a first-round playoff loss. Their focus, to improve their game and become a force to reckon with.
“It definitely should give us a lot of motivation because French Camp, at least while I’ve been here, has never been an outstanding team,” noted senior quarterback Logan Wright. “I think that hopefully at some point, we’re going to be able to take that and kind of realize that we need to turn things around.”
French Camp football will see a new face at the quarterback position this year. Benjamin Wright, son of Coach Wright, won’t be returning due to a recurring ACL injury. Filling the big shoes will be Logan Wright, Coach’s nephew.
“Not having him play obviously is a big part of your heart, it stabs and really makes things difficult,” Nathan said. “But having Logan out there with me, still having some of my family out there, it means a lot coaching them and doing things with them and just having that experience.”
In the build-up to the season, the team is buzzing with anticipation, particularly their offensive line. The squad, made up of juniors and seniors, is being spotlighted for their excellent synergy and extensive experience in playing together.
“We have good chemistry together,” shared senior offensive lineman Jon David Leach. “We’ve been playing with each other for a long, long time. Our offensive line is juniors and seniors, so we know each other very well.”
As French Camp gears up for the 2024 High School Football Tour, one thing is for certain – the Panthers are ready to claw their way to a victorious season and leave their mark. The anticipation and preparations continue. Horse Shoe Football Tour (HSFT), stop 6, promises to be an action-packed event full of grit, glory and hard-nosed football.
