Starkville is buzzing with anticipation as the Starkville/MSU Community Band prepares for its first concert of the fall 2024 season! The event will take place at 2 p.m. on October 20 at the Kent Sills Band Hall on the campus of Mississippi State University.

A Musical Journey Through Time and Emotion

Under the baton of community band director Johnny Folsom, the concert program promises to take the audience on a captivating journey. The performance will kick off with the energetic and vibrant “Fanfare for the Third Planet” by Richard Saucedo. This piece, with its thrilling brass and soaring melodies, is sure to set a lively tone for the afternoon.

Next, be swept away by the soothing notes of “The Seal Lullaby”, composed by Eric Whitacre. This beautiful work is filled with gentle harmonies and a touch of magic, making it a favorite for those who appreciate lush choral compositions.

Honoring Musical Legends

The concert then moves into a tribute to the renowned composer Robert W. Smith with his poignant piece “There Is A Season”. This work reflects on the passage of time and the various seasons of life, inviting the audience to pause and reflect on their own experiences.

Adding a dash of nostalgia to the program, the band will also present Nostalgia by Rossano Galante. This piece captivates listeners with its emotional depth, evoking memories and reflections through its rich melodic lines.
