Transitions and Optimism: High School Football Tour Stop #27 at East Union

Inside the World of Football at East Union

BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. — Blue Springs is buzzing with excitement as East Union gears up for a major football season this fall. Facing a transition at the head coach position, the Urchins will need to tap into their resilience and hunger for victory as they prepare to take the field.

However, this particular transition isn’t necessarily a hurdle. Rather, it signals a fresh beginning, a new chapter in East Union’s high school football story. And for the involved student-athletes, it’s about optimism, camaraderie, and unwavering faith in their team’s journey regardless of temporary hurdles.

The Transition: A Familiar Face at Helm

Interestingly enough, the next head coach isn’t a stranger within the East Union ranks. Longtime assistant coach, Stephen Basil, is stepping up to guide the Urchins. With 11 years under his belt on the East Union football staff, his appointment is both refreshing and comforting to the team.

“It’s a little rough, but I tried to look on the bright side of things, and I have faith in this coach,” expresses junior player Heath Wilkinson.

Recognizing the benefit of his history with the team, Stephen Basil emphasizes that it’s a huge advantage for the season ahead. Knowing the strengths, weaknesses, and dynamics of his team will no doubt work to ensure a smooth transition and a strong start.

Injury: A Challenge to Tackle

While East Union is not the largest team on the block, they are big on spirit and determination. However, having a smaller team size means there is a crucial need to avoid injuries. Stephen Basil delineates, “Most of these kids are going to have to play both ways and never come off the field, so we’ve got to get them in really good shape.”

Tight Bond Propels East Union Forward

There is a unique quality about smaller teams: they tend to form tight-knit bonds easily. East Union is no exception, and its members are optimistic about the upcoming season.

“We’re all just close to one another. We all love one another,” says Senior player Ben Basil. In a game where team spirit often defines the outcome, the Urchins’ camaraderie will be a strong asset as they step onto the field.

The season’s excitement starts building as East Union prepares for the first game at home against TCPS on Aug. 30. With an enthusiastic team, a supportive community, and a new gush of optimism, there’s an electric atmosphere in Blue Springs.

Transition, Challenge, and High Spirit:

East Union’s Journey has just begun, but it’s already brimming with life lessons about transitions, tackling challenges head-on, and never losing team spirit.
