County Administrator Removed in Contentious Vote at Chancery Courthouse

Chancery courthouse protest demonstration.

The county administrator, Delois Farmer, was removed from her position in a contentious 3-2 vote during a meeting at the chancery courthouse. The decision came after extended executive sessions about Farmer’s job performance, deviating from the planned budget discussions. District 1 Supervisor Ben Carver, District 4 Supervisor Pattie Little, and District 3 Supervisor Marvell Howard voted in favor of terminating Farmer, while District 2 Supervisor Orlando Trainer and Vice-President Joe Williams opposed the motion.

The reasons for Farmer’s removal were not explicitly disclosed, with supervisors citing the matter as a “personnel issue.” While some supervisors described the action as Farmer resigning, Trainer strongly disagreed, labeling it as a termination and expressing disappointment in the board’s decision-making process.

Having served as the county administrator since July 2021, Farmer expressed gratitude for her tenure and is optimistic about her future endeavors. Despite the abrupt change, the supervisors are moving forward by planning to advertise for a new county administrator soon. They are exploring interim options to manage the administrator responsibilities efficiently and are committed to hiring a skilled professional for the role promptly.
