Columbus Braces for Stormy Weather and Cooler Temperatures This Week

Columbus Weather Update: Storms and Cooler Temperatures on the Horizon

Columbus is in for a bit of weather excitement this week. If you step outside today, you might notice that the skies are looking a bit gloomy. This afternoon, showers and storms rolled in, and it seems they aren’t going anywhere just yet. The rain chance will hang around through the weekend!

The Stormy Start to Your Week

There were a few strong to severe storms recently, which made for a rather wild and unpredictable day. Thunder rumbled as those storms moved through late in the afternoon. It’s likely that the rain showers and storms will continue into the nighttime hours, thanks to a cold front that’s currently stalling over northern Mississippi. Overnight, it’s not expected to get too chilly, with temperatures hanging out in the upper 60s.

Midweek Rainy Forecast

For those who enjoy rainy weather, the middle of the week is shaping up to keep the moisture rolling in. Gray skies will persist on Wednesday, keeping temperatures a bit cooler in the upper 70s. Expect showers and maybe a few more thunder rumbles throughout the day. As the evening approaches, it will remain mild and humid with temperatures dipping into the middle 60s.

Weekend Outlook: Is Relief on the Way?

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast will heavily depend on the Florida-bound Tropical Storm Helene. This storm is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane by the time it makes landfall in the Florida Big Bend area on Thursday evening, potentially leading to heavy rainfall across Georgia and the Carolinas.

Our local weather pattern might start to shift as the storm moves and interacts with our nearby upper low, which could help to clear out some of the moisture we’ve been experiencing. This might lead to a decrease in rain coverage toward the end of the week, leaving just some isolated showers. However, if Helene’s track changes, it might ramp up rain chances again.

Weather can be unpredictable, so it’s good to stay safe. If you see anything interesting in the skies, feel free to share your experiences!

As the rainy days approach, cozying up with a good book or binge-watching your favorite series can be a great way to relax indoors.

That’s all for now, Columbus!
