The Caledonia football team have emerged from the 2024 season with mixed feelings. After reaching the third round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year, the team has faced many challenges which they have battled head on. Senior cornerback Charlie Sullivan shared, “Last season was pretty tough. However, I think we’ve proved a lot of people wrong by going to the third round for the third year in a row.” This achievement was no small feat for a team that went 6-6 and only won one game in their new district.
The latest year has put the Cavaliers in a district with powerhouses such as Louisville and Houston. The team’s head coach, Michael Kelly, has stated that their district consists of the best teams in the state for football. Despite this intimidating set of opponents, the Cavaliers have shown their iron will to compete.
With the knowledge that they have to be at their best to compete in such a challenging class, the Cavaliers have stressed the importance of offseason training. Senior offensive lineman Dylan Dees emphasized the dedication required, saying, “As much as you give out here, you gotta give in the fourth quarter when it matters.”
Coach Kelly shared that they have three players working in the quarterback position. However, he left everyone to speculate who the final choice would be, saying, “We’ll leave it as a surprise for you. Come August 30th and see who gets under center. We may play all three of them.”
Whatever the final team roster looks like, fans can expect an exciting match as Caledonia will host Nettleton to start the season on August 30. Despite the struggles of the past season, the team appears to be more determined than ever to put on a good show for their supporters.
Despite the stiff competition and the various struggles, the Caledonia Cavaliers have solidified their reputation as relentless contenders in Mississippi’s tough football landscape. Their resilience in the face of adversity and dedication to the sport proves that they are not a team to be taken lightly. With their collective spirit and strong preparations, the Cavaliers are all set to take the field by storm come August 30th. Let’s all hope for another great season for the Caledonia Football Team.
