Starkville, Mississippi – A glorious afternoon at Dudy Noble Field saw the Mississippi State Bulldogs rise to the occasion, claiming a confident 10-2 victory over the Queens University Royals on March 8, 2025. With a lively crowd of 10,456 fans cheering them on, the Bulldogs secured their third consecutive home series win, bringing their overall record to a solid 10-4.
The game showcased an impressive offensive performance from the Bulldogs, with an astounding total of 14 hits shared among ten different players. Leading the charge was none other than Aaron Downs, who had a fantastic day at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a double, two towering two-run home runs, and a whopping five RBIs.
Nolan Stevens was also in fine form, adding to the Bulldogs’ momentum with a 2-for-3 performance that included two doubles. Meanwhile, Gatlin Sanders contributed effectively with two singles and one RBI, and Bryce Chance got in on the action as well, blasting his third home run of the year.
On the pitching side, Ben Davis shined in his first start for Mississippi State, tossing six innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four Royals batters. He earned his first win of the season, evening his record to 1-1. The relief pitching was equally impressive, with Ryan McPherson, Mikhai Grant, and Duke Stone combining efforts to limit Queens to just three hits throughout the game.
The game was filled with action, and fans didn’t miss a beat. In the bottom of the second, Downs opened the scoring with a double that brought home Stevens, followed by a single from Sanders that added another run. The Royals countered in the top of the third when Justin Hudson managed to score on a double play.
But the Bulldogs weren’t done yet! In the bottom of the fourth, Downs hammered a two-run homer that scored Noah Sullivan, and Sanders crossed home after a single from Joe Powell. The lineup kept the energy high in the sixth as Downs struck again with another two-run shot, followed soon after by Chance’s own two-run blast.
As the game wound down, the Royals attempted to find some footing, scoring in the top of the ninth when Jake Barbour got across the plate thanks to a single from Nick Alderfer. However, the day belonged to the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are set to pursue a complete sweep of Queens with another showdown scheduled for Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 1 PM. Looking ahead, senior right-hander Karson Ligon is expected to take the mound for the series finale, hoping to build on the momentum from this commanding victory.
On the other side, Queens will be led by sophomore righty Jack Renaud, who has had a rocky start this season. With Mississippi State already on a roll, it should be an exciting finish to this series.
Fans can look forward to more baseball excitement as the Bulldogs are also gearing up for midweek games against Old Dominion and Nicholls, followed by the highly anticipated start of SEC play against Texas. As the season heats up, it’s clear that the Bulldogs are hungry for success!
