Children Explore Big Trucks at Fun-Filled Event in Columbus, MS

Columbus, Mississippi, came alive with the sounds of honking horns and playful laughter early Saturday morning, as families gathered for the much-anticipated annual Little Hands, Big Trucks event. It was an exciting day organized by the United Way in Lowndes County, where children had the chance to get up close and personal with some of the largest and most fascinating vehicles in the community.

A Day of Discovery

As the sun shone brightly, families flocked to the venue, eager to participate in a unique experience that allows kids to connect with various professions through hands-on exploration. “This is an event where we get to get out here and see these big trucks. You get to climb inside of them, turn the lights on, and honk the horn,” said a co-founder of Little Hands, Big Trucks.

The event serves a dual purpose: kids have fun while also helping raise funds for a great local organization—the United Way of the Golden Triangle. “These funds are going to be put to use back here at home,” he noted. It’s wonderful that while kids are enjoying themselves, they are also contributing to a good cause.

A Unique Weekend Activity

For parents looking for fresh and exciting weekend activities to get their children outdoors, Little Hands, Big Trucks proves to be the perfect solution. The rare opportunity this event provides allows children to experience climbing inside the back of a firetruck or on the back of a tractor. On days like these, kids get to explore different vehicles while supporting a good cause.

Turning A Dream Into Reality

Now in its 11th year, the event has grown to become a beloved tradition within the community. This year was no exception, as local fire trucks, heavy-duty construction vehicles, and even emergency response units lined the venue, each one inviting children to hop inside. As parents captured moments of their little ones beaming with joy behind the wheel, the day was clearly a hit.

Creating Lasting Memories

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as both young kids and “big kids” alike clamored to explore the different trucks. Some children were fascinated by the towering heights of the cranes, while others enjoyed the sirens of the emergency vehicles. “It’s all about creating those fun memories and allowing the kids to imagine what they can be when they grow up,” he shared with a smile.

Community Support

The success of the Little Hands, Big Trucks event reflects the community’s support. Local businesses and families generously came together to make this event a reality, helping it thrive while fostering a spirit of collaboration and encouragement within the community.

As families wrapped up their day filled with laughter and learning, the collective sentiment was clear: this event is a fantastic way to spend a Saturday, emphasizing the importance of connecting with one another, making memories, and investing in the future of the next generation.
