Artesia Day Festival: A Celebration of Community and Family

Artesia Day Festival: A Celebration of Community and Family

Artesia, Miss.— The quaint town of Artesia, located in Lowndes County, is renowned for hosting the popular annual festival, the Artesia Day Festival. Now in its 26th year, the festival is in full swing, bringing a plethora of exhilarating events over a week. The small town is bustling with activity and vitality, living up to its tagline, “We are the small town that does big things.”

Background and Evolution of the Festival

Since its inception 26 years ago, the festival has witnessed significant growth, evolving from the Artesia Hay Festival into the Artesia Day Festival. The transformation happened under the tenure of Mayor Jimmy Sanders, who wished to create an event centred around the community. The driving force has been to bring back those who left the area and provide a platform for bonding and reunion.

In the words of Alderwoman Mamie Johnson, “That’s the purpose of the event to bring family and friends back together ones that have left and moved away years ago. They all come back from Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, and different places. They come back for this event every year.”

Festival Highlights and The Message of Unity

During peak festival days, the town hosts around 12,000 visitors, which undoubtedly leaves the small town brimming with energy and dynamism. But above all, the festival tends to revolve around the theme of family reunion and unity.

City Clerk Tresa Sanders believes that Artesia Day is all about a family coming together. He says, “We are a family here in this small town, everyone knows everyone, and for people to come back home feels really good. Seeing your family again and coming together on these days is indeed a heart-warming experience.”

Artesia Day Festival Schedule

The Artesia Day Festival will continue until the 4th of August, with an exciting lineup of events waiting to engage locals and visitors alike. While it brings in visitors from far-off states like Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri, it also poses an exciting opportunity for locals to get together and celebrate their town’s spirit with much zeal.

Even as we intently cover the festival events, there is an underlying message of unity, warmth, and community spirit that resonates with everyone in Artesia. The on-going festival indeed puts across the compelling aspects of the small town, which forever remains a close-knit community with a big heart.

Conclusion

As the 26th annual Artesia Day Festival unfolds with a bevy of events and activities, the pulsating vibe of the small town of Artesia draws in visitors from all over. The festival encapsulates the quintessence of the town’s unity and family spirit – a small town doing big things indeed.
