With high expectations and a record of 4-3, A-State was ready to put their skills to the test against the undefeated 6-0 Bulldogs.

Doubles Drama Unfolds

Right from the start, it was clear that A-State was not going to back down easily. The doubles matches were thrilling, with two of them going to nail-biting set tiebreakers. On Court 1, the competitive duo of Gianna Oboniye and Athina Pitta showcased their talent, managing to clinch a tight match against Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi with a score of 7-6(2). Meanwhile, on Court 2, Mississippi State’s Maria Rizzolo and Carolina Troiano beat Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer by a score of 6-4, giving the Bulldogs the early lead.

Over on Court 3, A-State’s Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin were in a heated battle, tied 4-all in a tiebreaker against Jayna Clemens and Chiara Di Genova when the doubles point was decided. Despite A-State’s strong performance in doubles, they ended the round trailing 1-0.

Single Matches Heat Up

The singles matches brought even more excitement as Mississippi State quickly extended their lead to 2-0, with Oboniye taking down Grigoreva with a score of 6-3, 6-3. At this point, A-State was in a bit of a pickle, needing to rally to maintain their chances.

Freshman standout _Lilly Cvanciger_ stepped up to the plate, delivering a fantastic performance against Maria Rizzolo. Cvanciger showcased her skills and determination, securing a straight-set victory with a score of 6-3, 6-2, marking her second consecutive win in singles. This victory brought hope back to A-State fans as the score narrowed to 2-1 in favor of Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs Clinch the Match
