Starkville Celebrates Creativity with the Annual Buzzy’s Art Awards
It’s that magical time of the year again in Starkville, where the colors of imagination come alive with the annual Buzzy’s Art Awards! The Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District PTO is putting the spotlight on the incredible artistic talents of students from Pre-K to 12th grade. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the creativity and talent of young minds in our community.
Who Can Join In?
The Buzzy’s Art Awards is open to all students enrolled in the Starkville Oktibbeha School District, inviting everyone from the tiniest Pre-K artists to the skilled seniors in high school. So if you’re a budding Picasso, a young Shakespeare, or an upcoming Ansel Adams, this is your chance to shine!
Mark Your Calendars!
Parents and students, take note—the deadline for submitting artwork to the contest is January 26, 2025. Make sure to get your creations ready and submitted on time to avoid missing out on this fantastic opportunity! Each student can submit one original work in each of the four categories:
- Creative Writing
- Photography
- 2-Dimensional Art
- 3-Dimensional Art
Though students can only submit one entry per category, they are free to enter all four categories if they’re feeling particularly artistic!
How Will It Be Judged?
Judging is set up to recognize the talents at different grade levels, with separate categories for students from Pre-K all the way up to 8th grade. But there’s a twist for our high school artists! All submissions from 9th to 12th grade will be collected and judged together. Talk about a competitive spirit!
Excitingly, an overall Best of Show award will be given out for each school in both the creative writing and art categories. It’s a dazzling chance for students to earn bragging rights—who wouldn’t want to take home that honor?
Submission Guidelines
Now, here’s a crucial detail: all submissions must be collected online. The PTO has made it clear that no entries should be sent via email or handed in person at schools. If there are any questions about submissions, participants can reach out to the PTO through their official email at starkvillepto.buzzys@gmail.com.
The Grand Showcase
After the judging takes place in February 2025, the excitement builds up to the presentation ceremony on March 3, 2025. There will be two ceremonies held at the Greensboro Center:
- 6:00 PM for PreK-5th grades
- 7:30 PM for 6th-12th grades
All winning entries will be prominently displayed at the ceremony, and lucky winners will receive notifications before the event. What a splendid way to celebrate and recognize the creativity that enriches our educational community!
A Mission Worth Supporting
The PTO, driven by the mission of achieving excellence, strives to discover and develop every student’s passion, purpose, and potential. By hosting events like the Buzzy’s Art Awards, they’re not just promoting art; they’re fostering a culture of creativity and expression that is so essential for our youth.
