Starkville Man Caught in High-Speed Chase After Car Theft

In a rather dramatic turn of events, a 24-year-old man from Starkville found himself in hot water after leading police on a multi-county pursuit last Friday evening. The story began around 5 p.m. when a vehicle was stolen right in the heart of Columbus, specifically from the 1500 block of Second Avenue North while its owner was picking up a relative from a nearby daycare.

The Chase Begins

The vehicle’s owner was not going to let the theft go unnoticed. Thanks to modern technology, they were able to track their stolen car using a cell phone. They quickly called the police and provided a description of the vehicle, which turned out to be a game-changer in the unfolding drama.

Officers from the Columbus Police Department (CPD) sprang into action, and as luck would have it, they spotted the stolen car at a Shell station on Plymouth Bluff shortly after. However, when the police turned on their lights, the driver had other ideas. The suspect, identified as Koby Mclean Brown, took off at high speed, prompting the officers to give chase. What followed was a thrilling pursuit that saw the streets of Starkville buzzing with activity.

A Multi-Agency Effort

The chase wasn’t just a one-agency affair. It quickly escalated into a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Starkville Police Department, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. It’s a true testament to what can be achieved when these agencies work together.

Ending With An Arrest

Eventually, the chase came to a dramatic conclusion on Jesse Road in Starkville, where Brown was apprehended. Fortunately, there were no injuries to officers or civilians during this high-octane escapade. In a matter of about an hour, the stolen vehicle was recovered, and the car’s rightful owner was already on their way to reclaim it.

Community Safety First

Chief Joseph Daughtry expressed relief over the safe resolution of the incident. “It just goes to show you that when we work together, we can accomplish a lot,” he commented. “I just want to thank those agencies that I mentioned for their support.”

Next Steps for Brown

As for Koby Mclean Brown, he now faces several serious charges, including motor vehicle theft, felony eluding, and driving with a suspended license. Additionally, he racked up numerous traffic violations during the chase, which could lead to even more legal trouble.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the power of teamwork among law enforcement. The neighborhood can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that swift actions led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the apprehension of the suspect.
