Community Comes Together in Columbus for Health and Awareness Event
Columbus, Mississippi, was bustling with activity as the Family Life Ministry organized a vibrant event aimed at boosting health awareness and providing community support. The event, known as the Community Prayer Experience, not only featured a health fair but also served as a significant platform to raise awareness about pressing social issues like domestic violence.
Health Fair Focuses on Wellness
The health fair took place at the Trotter Convention Center, running from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Attendees eagerly lined up to take advantage of the various health screenings available, which included essential checks like blood pressure, blood sugar, height, weight, and bone density. This initiative aimed to empower residents by providing them with valuable health information.
“By participating in the screenings, what they find out is if their numbers are normal or high or low,” said a representative from Baptist Golden Triangle. The importance of these screenings was emphasized, indicating that awareness of high or low numbers could lead individuals to identify potential health issues like high blood pressure or diabetes.

Community members like Michael Johnson attended the event with a proactive approach to health. “I just came out to this event to learn what my numbers are supposed to be, what they are,” he shared. With a thumbs-up on his results, he expressed relief and gratitude, stating, “I’m glad to know that they are pretty good numbers. (I’ve) got to keep it up. Being a young Black man, we got to look out for that kind of stuff, stay healthy, and start young.”
