Forks and Corks to Rekindle the ‘90s Fun for Art Lovers in the City

STARKVILLE — If you’re yearning for a nostalgic journey back to the fun and playfulness of the 90’s, the annual Forks and Corks fundraiser event hosted by the Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) aims to bring back those groovy vibes this weekend.

What to Expect

The event, themed reincarnation of the school-inspired 90’s party, will be held at the State Theatre from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. this Saturday. This year’s iteration marks a shift from traditionally formal to more casual, come-and-go type celebration downtown. However, the focus of the fundraiser remains the same – celebrating the culinary arts of the city and raising money for local art education programs.

The New Venue

The switch to the State Theatre as the event venue signifies a significant “throwback”. It’s noteworthy that this is the first time that the SAAC has decided to hold its Forks and Corks gala at this site since its renovation.

Fundraiser’s Objective

This year, the SAAC aims to raise $20,000 from the event for its art education programs. The proceeds will come from various sources, including ticket sales, silent auctions, and donations. Juliette Reid, SAAC Program Coordinator, expressed that the funds will support their summer scholarships, little libraries, and other low-cost and free cultural and educational initiatives in Oktibbeha County and the Golden Triangle.

Fun, Food, and Entertainment

The event will see the participation of six local restaurants – Walk-On’s, Harveys, Central Station Grill, the Coffee Depot, Proof Bakery and Big E’s Dinner Club – who will be showcasing the diverse culinary offerings of Starkville. Alongside, attendees can enjoy live music by the Luckytown Band and participate in a silent auction featuring contributions from local small businesses.

90’s Themed Costume Contest

Adding to the nostalgic charm of the event is a 90’s themed costume contest. The best-dressed guest will be awarded a prize by the end of the night. SAAC Executive Director, Mary Switzer, joyfully exclaimed, “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there in their flannel, bucket hats and butterfly clips to support a great cause!”.

Tickets Booking

Limited tickets are available for purchase at the door. The VIP tickets offer guests access to the balcony, with private restrooms and a separate bar area. Tickets can also be purchased online via the given URL.

Rekindle your love for the arts and the 1990s, join in the fun, and take part in a great cause. Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind culinary celebration in the city.
